The Democratic Women’s Club will meet Thursday July13, 2017, 6:30 pm at the Madison County Housing Authority Office located at 630 Skyway Drive, Marshall NC.
Agenda Items will include:
- The Women’s Club Picnic scheduled for July 29th.
- Election of New Officers
- A Request from the NC State Democratic Women’s Organization – A written resolution paying tribute to deceased member Shirley Roberts. (We will be looking for someone to write the resolution).
ACTIVITY REPORT FOR 2016 ELECTION CYCLE – MADISON COUNTY DEMOCRATIC WOMEN’S (MCDW) CLUB
As a group the Madison County Democratic Women’s Club volunteered over 2500 hours to the support of candidates and the Madison County Democratic party during the 2016 election cycle.
September 2015 – Fund Raiser Madison County Fair – Money raised went toward sponsoring Democratic Candidate Forum
December 2015 – MCDW hosted Holiday Dinner – many local and regional Democratic candidates were invited and did attend. This was the first opportunity for many county Democrats to meet the candidates.
February 2016 – MCDW’s Club President (Robin Roe) assisted in the development of the new Madison County Democratic Party’s website. Ms. Roe also paid for one year of website billing for the party’s site.
March 2016 – MCDW were asked by Madison County Democratic Executive Committee to take responsibility for getting the Democratic Party’s office open in the county. The women in the club were responsible for setting up the office, providing furniture, office supplies, heaters, fans, microwave, and refrigerator. The women’s club cleaned the office throughout the year as well as kept it stocked with candidate literature and signage. Additionally, the women’s club members provided the majority of the volunteer hours to keep the office open.
April 2016 – MCDW sponsored a Democratic candidate’s pre-primary forum. The forum was held at the Marshall Campus of AB Tech. Democratic candidates that attended included two for county commissioner, two for NC House District 118 seat, two for NC Senate 47 seat, and two for the U.S. House of Representative District 11 seat. All questions were developed by MCDW club members. The club president, Robin Roe served as the forum moderator. It was a very successful event lasting over four hours. Approximately 100 citizens attended the forum.
July 2016 – Hosted countywide Democratic Party picnic. Invited all regional Democratic candidates. Most of the candidates attended and were given the opportunity to speak and meet with constituents.
September 2016 – MCDW Fundraiser at Madison County Fair. Donated $500.00 raised to Madison County Democratic Party.
October 2016 – Co-hosted a fundraiser breakfast along with Democratic Men’s Club. Candidates were invited and speak to attendees. Donated $600.00 raised to Madison County Democratic Party.
Sept-Nov 2016 – Participated in phone calling facilitated by National Democratic Party
November 2016 – MCDW provided approximately 100 desserts for County Democratic Thank You, Fish Fry. The event is a long-standing tradition sponsored by county party and is free for anyone to attend.
December 2016 – Many of the elected candidates attended MCDW’s annual holiday party. Thanked everyone for their support. Additionally, two club members were named MCDW’s Women of the Year. Dessie White and Bertha Bishop were honored. Attendees donated over $300.00 for Gatlinburg Wildfire victims. MCDW contributed additional funds in order to donate $500.00 to support wildfire efforts.
